Welcome to my very first blog post — I’m so excited you’re here! This space is where I’ll share my crochet journey, review patterns, and talk honestly about what worked, what didn’t, and what I’d change next time. Hopefully, it helps fellow makers (and maybe inspires a few new ones)!
Pattern by: @emytoys on Instagram
Type: Free amigurumi pattern
Yarn Used: Loops & Threads Chenille + Bernat Baby Velvet (variegated)
Hooks Used: US Size H (5mm) + US Size I (5.25mm for ears)
I worked up a few bunnies using both Loops & Threads Chenille and Bernat Baby Velvet. Right away, I noticed the difference:
Loops & Threads Chenille: much softer, perfect for that snuggly bunny feel 🐰.
Bernat Baby Velvet: thicker with my hooks, resulting in a stiffer bunny (still cute, but not as cuddly).
Every pattern has its quirks, and here’s what I noticed while making Lilo the Bunny:
Ears 🐇 → Super easy since they don’t require stuffing! I loved that part. I used the larger hook for them, which made crocheting less stressful on my hands. The only thing I’d tweak: they tend to stick out when attached, even with looser tension. I’ll experiment with alternate attachment methods next time.
Legs 🦵 → Oh, the legs gave me trouble! Joining two separate legs into the body was trickier than expected. I tried three times (different colors, different placements) and still struggled to keep my stitch count even. My bunny turned out a little lopsided, but it gives them personality, right?
Face sculpting ✨ → This was new to me, but wow — what a game-changer! Adding shaping and sculpting details really brought my bunny to life. I still need practice with centering and symmetry when sewing, but it’s a skill I’m glad I tried.
Overall, I’d 100% recommend Lilo the Bunny for semi-beginners to amigurumi. It’s approachable, fun, and has lots of room for personalization. You can:
Switch up colors (the original pattern includes a shirt color-change option 👕).
Keep it simple with solids (like I did).
Add clothing or props for market-ready cuteness!
This pattern was well-written, easy to follow, and still gave me a few challenges that helped me grow as a maker.
Crocheting Lilo the Bunny was such a rewarding project — and judging from the love it got on my Facebook feed, I think others agree it’s a crowd-pleaser! 🧶💖
